Playmobil Continues to Invest in Malta Production Site
Last updated: 10 February 2026

Most of you will be familiar with Playmobil. From what I gather from my nephews, the little plastic figures might not be quite as popular as they were back in my childhood, but Geobra Brandstätter GmbH—the company behind Playmobil—still seems to be posting good results.
What many people don't know is that Playmobil has been manufacturing in Malta for a long time, long before the island even joined the EU. This makes the German company one of the first to set up a corporate base in Malta and benefit from the country—though back then, it was probably more about lower labour costs than tax advantages. Now, they are strengthening their Malta presence even further with a multi-million euro investment.
Playmobil Malta: 110 Million Figures per Year
Currently, Playmobil is one of Malta's largest employers. Last year, 1,000 full-time staff and 500 part-time employees produced 110 million figures here, which are shipped all over the world. The factory is also home to a small theme park (the Playmobil FunPark), which I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting Malta with children. The little ones will love it.
Playmobil Invests €30 Million to Expand Maltese Factory
The existing factory is set to be expanded, with 30 million euros being allocated for the project. This investment is intended to increase production capacity by 20 to 30 percent, as Mathias Fauser, CEO of Playmobil, announced at the press conference. The planned expansion is expected to create 200 new jobs, which are to be filled over the next three to four years.
The press conference was attended by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. He praised Playmobil as a key factor in Malta's economy and described the company as a classic success story.
Playmobil is one of the few foreign companies that has called Malta home from the very beginning. Production has been running here since 1971, and it looks like that success story is set to continue. As Joseph Muscat aptly put it: it’s a textbook success story.
