3 Compelling Reasons to Move to Malta in 2026

Many people dream of moving abroad—some just toy with the idea, while others are ready to pack their bags. In my work at Dr. Werner & Partners, I frequently meet clients who, while discussing setting up a Malta Limited, also want to know if the island is an attractive place for private individuals to actually live.

If the conditions are right for their specific situation, my verdict is always the same: Yes, absolutely.

English Makes Settling In Easy

One reason you see so many language schools here is simply that English is an official language in Malta. While the locals also speak Malti—a fascinating mix of Arabic and Italian—you will get by perfectly fine with just English. In fact, you can live here for years without needing anything else.

This is a crucial point for many of my clients. When it comes to the formal side of things, it is incredibly helpful that all official documents are available in English. While my firm handles most of the bureaucratic heavy lifting for our clients, I personally believe it makes a huge difference when you can actually read and understand what is going on. The language barrier here is non-existent for English speakers, which makes the move to Malta significantly smoother than relocating to Spain or France.

Good Weather Year-Round

It sounds like a cliché, but living where others go on holiday really does change your lifestyle. Malta offers good weather almost all year round. In summer, the sun shines for an average of twelve hours a day, and even in winter, you still get about six hours of sunlight.

I'll be honest: when I first moved to Malta after living in London, the heat initially knocked me sideways. I wasn't used to it. But after a short adjustment period, I learned to love it. There is something special about being able to take the family to the beach for an afternoon in November—something I certainly couldn't do back in the UK or Germany.

The Tax Advantages

Finally, we have to talk about the financial side. The tax benefits of moving to Malta are undeniable, both for companies and private individuals.

There has been a lot of noise in the international press over the years about "tax loopholes" or shady dealings in Malta. But the reality is quite different. We aren't dealing with evasion or grey areas here; we are dealing with the intended effects of the Maltese government's policy. The system is designed to be attractive.

My conclusion after years of working here is simple: If you follow the rules and ensure you are fully compliant, you can benefit significantly from the Maltese system without looking over your shoulder. It is fully transparent, EU-compliant, and highly efficient.

Malta offers plenty of advantages—for entrepreneurs and private individuals alike. If you are thinking about moving to Malta, drop me a message. We can look at your specific situation and see if the island makes sense for you. You wouldn't be the first to make the move, and you certainly won't be the last.
